Winner – Charcut Roast House
Known for its meat-focused menu and urban-meets-rustic vibe, this beloved downtown restaurant still has a devoted following after more than a decade in business. Co-chefs/owners John Jackson and Connie DeSousa were quick to act when the pandemic hit and successfully launched both curbside pickup and an online Butcher Shop where Charcut fans can order charcuterie, smokies, butcher boxes and more for home.
2nd – Klein / Harris
Specializing in Canadian fare, Klein / Harris is a great option for lunch, dinner or even just a drink with dessert. Partner Christina Mah’s cocktail menu features gems like the K / H Caesar with house made celery and clam broth, while chef James Waters’ food menu will tempt you with oysters, Alberta lamb loin and candied pork belly.
3rd (tie) – One18 Empire
One18 Empire offers over 300 different whiskey, rye, bourbon and scotch options, as well as a small yet mighty food menu to match. The food is designed to be the perfect pairing for any drink. Try the duck fat bravas potato, the One18 burger or the 16-ounce ribeye during your next dinner visit.
3rd (tie) – Modern Steak
When Modern Steak says it will “only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef,” it means it — guests can see exactly which Alberta ranches and farms their dinner came from by checking the menu. Naturally, that makes the steak a top contender here, but don’t skip over the equally delicious seafood dishes.
