Whether you’re checking out a local ice cream shop and grabbing some soft serve, there’s no shortage of ways to get your ice cream fix in Calgary. But nowadays, ice cream takes many forms, making its way into milkshakes, in between cookies and even getting covered in chocolate. Here are seven ice cream treats you should try in Calgary this summer.

Frozen Assets Ice Cream Co. Popsicles and Ice Cream Sandwiches from The Beltliner

A post shared by The Beltliner (@thebeltliner) on

The Beltliner has a coffee counter right at the front of the restaurant, but coffee and baked goods aren’t the only things you can grab there. The restaurant also offers treats from Calgary’s Frozen Assets Ice Cream Co. at the counter, making it easy to grab a popsicle or ice cream sandwich for the road.

Summer Stacks from The Chocolate Lab

From giant designer chocolate eggs to brightly coloured chocolate bonbons, there’s always something new and creative coming out of The Chocolate Lab. The local chocolate shop’s latest treat, Summer Stacks, is perfect for the warm summer weather. Summer Stacks feature a round disc of Made By Marcus ice cream on a stick. Chocolate and/or ganache stacks are added and dipped in dark chocolate, caramelized chocolate, hazelnut milk chocolate or strawberry chocolate. The final touch is your choice of toppings like sprinkles or poppin’ pretzel crunch. There are eight flavours to choose from, including mocha, caramellow, strawberries ‘n cream and more. If you really want to take your summer stack to the next level, ask about adding a chocolate bonbon to the front of your treat.

If you’ve been to Monogram’s newest location in Britannia, you may have noticed that it offers coffee soft serve through a collaboration with Made By Marcus. But what you might not know is that the local coffee shop also uses it to make espresso milkshakes. The milkshakes feature the coffee soft serve, a shot of espresso and D Dutchmen milk, and are a fun way to get both your coffee and ice cream fix this summer.

Oreo ice cream sandwiches are pretty great on their own, but Re:Grub is taking things to the next level by dipping them in chocolate and adding Oreo cookie chunks. Put it on a stick and voila – a delicious ice cream sandwich popsicle.

Booza from Shawarma Barlow

Craving something sweet after chowing down on shawarma? Shawarma Barlow has you covered. This summer, the eatery has been making its own Arabic ice cream known as booza. The dessert features rose water, mastic and pistachio. The ice cream is subject to availability so call in advance before going to get some at the 17 Ave. S.W. location (they’re currently out but are planning to make more later this week).

Affogatos from Socit Coffee Lounge

There are a lot of places you can get an affogato in Calgary, but Socit Coffee Lounge offers a fun, boozy twist on the Italian treat. While you can order a classic version that features hot espresso poured over Fiasco Gelato ice cream, you can also spice things up by adding either Frangelico or Baileys liqueur as well.

Screamers from Two Penny Chinese

Soft serve ice cream and slushies are both great individually. But you can have the best of both worlds by combining them to make a screamer. At Two Penny Chinese, you can order a screamer right from the host at the front of the restaurant. Pair black sesame or five spice pineapple soft serve with either lemon ginger or white soy cola slush to create the ultimate sweet combo.
