19 New Restaurants That Opened in N.E. Calgary in 2022

This quadrant welcomed several new bakeries, as well as restaurants specializing in Thai, Italian, Indian, Mexican and Pakistani cuisine.

Calgary’s dining scene grew at an impressive pace this year, with more and more spots opening every month. Here’s a look at some of the new restaurants and cafés that opened in northeast Calgary over the course of 2022.

 

Abbey’s Creations

This year saw the arrival of three new locations of Abbey’s Creations, which are located in Pacific Place Mall, Inglewood and just off Barlow Trail. Halo halo, creamy avocado and raspberry cheesecake are just some of the delicious ice cream flavours you can get at these spots. The company now has seven locations in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Bakeography Cafe

This new bakery opened in northeast Calgary on October 16. Led by chef Astha Malhotra, the shop features a wide range of Indian-inspired French pastries that range from gulab jamun cake, to citrus shortbread cookies, to sweet and savoury croissants. You can enjoy it all with a fresh cup of coffee or tea.

Cabeza Grande

This new Mexican restaurant in Bridgeland celebrated its grand opening in September. The bright dining space is a great place to enjoy starters like tortilla soup and avocado bites or tacos that come with toppings like Baja fish, barbacoa mushrooms or Alberta pork.

Casa Catrina

Casa Catrina is a new Calgary destination for Mexican cuisine. Enchiladas, mole with chicken, tacos and chile relleno are just a few of the tasty dishes you can enjoy with some friends or family here.

Chicko Chicken

There’s a new spot to get your fill of Korean-style fried chicken in Calgary. Head to Chicko Chicken to try flavours like soy garlic, cheese snow, buldak, yangyeom and more.

This Korean-style hot dog chain has hundreds of locations around the world and recently opened its first Calgary location inside Pacific Place Mall. There are hot dogs covered in chicken nuggets, cheese, sweet potato and more.

Codo Agave Social House

Golden Kway Teow Palace

This new restaurant, which specializes in Cambodian and Vietnamese dishes, recently opened in northeast Calgary. Try dishes like the crispy buttered chicken wings, the KT Palace special dry noodles with a side of soup, the KT Palace beef lok lak with rice, durian sticky rice and more.

Karahi Boys, a franchise specializing in traditional Pakistani cuisine, opened its first Alberta location in Calgary’s Falconridge neighbourhood in June. The warm and spacious interior welcomes guests to choose from a substantial menu of chicken, goat, kabab and veggie karahis, as well as barbecue dishes and starters like chatpata fried wings and paneer bites.

Machi Machi

This bubble tea company, which already has locations in Ontario and British Columbia, recently opened its first Alberta location in Calgary’s Bridgeland neighbourhood. Try flavours like oolong milk tea, jasmine green tea with cream foam or a strawberry latte with panna cotta.

Made by AKB

Now open in Savanna Bazaar in the community of Saddle Ridge, Made by AKB is a new bakery storefront where you can get sweet treats like cake jars, mini cheesecakes, stuffed cupcakes and more. The bakery also serves tea and Rosso coffee.

Mari Bakeshop is officially back (and now located in Bridgeland) after closing its East Village bakery back in the summer of 2021. The new location is a bright and spacious spot to enjoy treats like choux pastries, slices of roll cake and other baked goods ranging from monkey bread to croissants. Be sure to order a baguette or loaf of bread to enjoy at home later, too.
