29 New Restaurants That Opened in S.E. Calgary in 2022

There are new spots for pizza, bubble tea, Vietnamese cuisine, coffee, burgers and more.

Calgary’s dining scene grew at an impressive pace this year, with more and more spots opening every month. Here’s a look at some of the new restaurants and cafés that opened in southeast Calgary over the course of 2022.

 

Abbey’s Creations

This year saw the arrival of three new locations of Abbey’s Creations, which are located in Pacific Place Mall, Inglewood and just off Barlow Trail. Halo halo, creamy avocado and raspberry cheesecake are just some of the delicious ice cream flavours you can get at these spots. The company now has seven locations in Calgary and the surrounding area.

This bubble tea chain recently added another Calgary location to its roster. Ami Tea’s new location just off Macleod Trail and Heritage Drive is a great spot to grab a Korean barbecue sub and drinks like passion fruit oolong or taro black sugar.

The Burger’s Priest

This popular burger chain opened its first Calgary location in June. Pop in for one of the beef, chicken or vegetarian burgers, which you can pair with poutine and a shake.

Business & Pleasure

Just a few weeks after Neighbour Coffee opened in Inglewood, a separate new eatery called Business & Pleasure (owned by the same team as the coffee shop) opened its doors as well. This new snack bar is located behind Neighbour, with an entrance that faces the building’s back alley. Business & Pleasure offers a warm and intimate dining experience, with creative cocktails and dishes like beef cheek wontons, shrimp agua chile and pork belly carnitas tacos on the menu.

This Inglewood eatery brings a colourful spin on North American diners to the neighbourhood. Step inside Bussin’s bright pink interior to order creative wraps, smashed beef burgers, chicken burgers or an alternative burger that features either a veggie patty, crispy wild-caught cod or halloumi cheese. If you’re craving something sweet, consider one of the waffles with toppings ranging from chocolate brownies to Maltesers, or opt for one of the 11 signature shakes.

Cafe Ambient

This eatery in Chinatown is a great spot to pop in for a coffee like the toffeenut latte and one of its popular standing egg sandwiches. Cafe Ambient also recently started offering Korean-style cocktails.

Deville Coffee continued to expand around Calgary this year with the opening of two more locations. It opened a new café at The District at Beltline in January, and its first southeast Calgary location in Willow Park Village in July. Be sure to stop by for a coffee and some baked goods.

Earl of Sandwich

This franchise opened its first Calgary location in McKenzie Towne this year, and as you may have guessed from the name, it’s all about sandwiches. Along with breakfast sandwiches, guests can dig into creations like The Earl’s Club, tuna melts, caprese sandwiches and more.

Syndicate Hospitality Group, the team behind Orchard and Shelter, has opened a new restaurant in East Village. Designed by Fort Architecture, Fortuna’s Row spans 10,000 square feet inside a former textile factory. The beautiful space is complemented by an impressive cocktail bar area near the front entrance called “Standing Room Only.” The kitchen, led by chef Mikko Tamarra (who you may recognize from Con Mi Taco), serves an impressive menu of contemporary Latin American cuisine with dishes like the braised pork belly taco, empanadas, lamb ribs and more.

This new Korean restaurant celebrated its grand opening in Inglewood on September 30. Visit the expansive dining room with some friends to try as much of the shareable menu as possible. Dishes include steamed egg pudding with pollack roe, beef carpaccio, garlic shrimp pasta, corn brie cheese, mussels in tomato sauce and more.

The Mad Hatter

One of the newest additions to Inglewood, The Mad Hatter describes itself as an “eco-conscious coffee shop, communal art space and hyper-local market.” Along with drinks like coffee and tea, guests can order a vegetarian sausage roll or crustless quiche to enjoy while getting creative with some of the cafe’s complimentary art supplies. Before you leave, be sure to check out the Cheshire Market for locally made items ranging from jams to bird feeders made out of upcycled teacups.

If you love chicken strips, this is the place for you. This new East Village eatery was one of the last spots to open in Calgary this year and focuses on chicken tenders that come with unique topping combinations ranging from Big Parma (with San Marzano ragu, mozza, parmesan, basil piston and noodles) to Peanuts Be Jelly (with satay sauce, red pepper jam, nuts and Wonderbread aioli). Stuffies Pastries

Southcentre Mall is now home to the first Calgary location of Stuffies, a franchise that already has several locations across Canada. With three locations in Saskatoon, Wow Pizza has arrived in Calgary.
