There’s a new spot to stop for a bite and a drink after a day of shopping in Calgary’s Deerfoot Meadows area.

Tavern Collective opened earlier this month in the building formerly occupied by Shark Club. Describing itself as “a modern take on the public house,” the two-storey restaurant has a bar and seating on both floors, as well as a small arcade on the ground level.

Culinary director and executive chef Brandon Thordarson describes Tavern’s menu as “approachable, fun and authentic,” with elevated twists on familiar dishes like Windsor-style pizzas made with fresh focaccia bread, Indian-inspired cashew butter chicken or Mexican-inspired enchiladas with avocado sauce.

Tavern is part of Vancouver-based Northland Properties, a company that counts restaurants like Moxies, Denny’s, Shark Club and more as part of its portfolio. Tavern has a laid-back, casual atmosphere and a globally inspired menu that will appeal to a variety of diners, including kids (it’s a child-friendly establishment with a kids’ menu). The company plans to open additional locations in 2025, starting with its second location in Winnipeg.

“Come as you are,” says Thordarson. “It’s unpretentious, bring your kids. Have some good drinks, good food and some really good service hospitality in a room that [is] fun.”
