The Big Social campaign is encouraging Calgarians to call up their friends, dust off their old cookbooks (or buy a pre-made lasagna — no one needs to know) and share stories and laughs over their favourite meal, while simultaneously raising funds for the Alex Community Food Centre.

The Big Social Campaign is a new fundraising initiative organized by Community Food Centres Canada, a national nonprofit supporting those who are dealing with poverty and food insecurity. The campaign, which takes place across Canada from November 1 to 10, encourages Canadians to host an event — anything from a Sunday football potluck to an elaborate dinner party — to raise funds for organizations across Canada who are working towards increasing access to healthy foods and empowering low-income communities.

Whether you like to cook or not, hosting a Big Social event is easy. Simply register online, set your fundraising goal, invite your friends, family or co-workers (or all of them at once if you’re feeling ambitious) and ask them to donate to your Big Social campaign with the promise of a home-cooked meal. Your Big Social event can take place in your home, office or elsewhere, and can be as extravagant and decadent or as casual and relaxed as you choose.

Enjoy delicious food and exceptional company knowing that donations raised by your Big Social event will go directly to programs at the Alex Community Food Centre, located right here in Calgary.
