Canada’s restaurant industry is hurting right now. As a result of the pandemic, restaurants across the country have had to lay off staff to survive while others have had to close outright, either temporarily or permanently.
One way that Canadians can help is by ordering takeout from restaurants if/when they are able to. And let’s face it, after a month of social distancing and cooking for yourself, we probably don’t need to convince you.
Canada Takeout recently launched a new campaign in support of this idea. The project aims to support Canadian restaurants by encouraging people to designate Wednesdays as the day to order takeout each week.
More than 80 Calgary restaurants have signed up on Canada Takeout’s website to show that they are open for takeout/delivery. If you don’t see your favourite eatery there, give the restaurant a call or check its social media channels to see if it’s still open for takeout during the pandemic. Avenue has also compiled an ongoing list of Calgary restaurants offering takeout/delivery.
If Wednesdays don’t work as a takeout day for you, don’t sweat it — the spirit of the initiative (to order takeout in support of the restaurant industry once a week) still applies no matter what day you choose to do it on.
