West Hillhurst

Development in West Hillhurst didn’t begin until 1945 when “victory homes” were built for soldiers returning from the Second World War.

Annexed by the City of Calgary in 1907, development in West Hillhurst didn’t begin until 1945 when “victory homes” were built for soldiers returning from the Second World War. Even though these were meant to be temporary residences, many still remain and have yet to be knocked down to make way for urban infills.

This neighbourhood, which ranked fifth in Avenue’s 2013 Best Neighbourhood survey, is hip yet luxurious, and it’s far enough away to avoid noise and other downtown issues. Situated next to the Bow River and some of the city’s most gorgeous pathways, this is one of the most walkable neighbourhoods in Calgary. It is no wonder West Hillhurst is a haven for working professionals who love the urban life.
