There’s a new pub bringing some British flair to Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood.

Over the summer, British-inspired pub chain Elephant & Castle opened its first Alberta location in Calgary. The pub brings new life to the space that used to be home to the Rose & Crown.

Elephant & Castle is decked out in British memorabilia and decor that adds to the cozy yet spacious setting. The giant east-facing patio, which has strings of lights, heaters and umbrellas, is another plus in the summer.

Whether you’re just popping in for a quick beer or settling in for a meal, the menu offers something for everyone. The food menu features a wide range of pub favourites ranging from mini sausage rolls and poutine to entrées like Manta’s butter chicken, fish and chips, burgers, or bangers and mash. There’s also a selection of savoury pies, which you can order individually or as “The Wee Pie Flight” if you want to try small versions of all four flavours.

Don’t miss the excellent happy hour that runs daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again from 11 p.m. to close. That’s when you can get house wine, well hi-balls and a selection of draft beers for only $6, as well as $6 share plates.

The pub is a popular spot to catch the latest soccer (a.k.a. football) match on one of many TVs (see the match schedule on the pub’s website). Guests can also venture upstairs to try their hand at some darts or pool.
