9 Calgary Patios For Cold Days

The next time there’s a cloudy or rainy day in Calgary, head to one of these patios with heaters, enclosures, fireplaces and more.

Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub

Bottlescrew Bill’s covered and heated downtown patio is a great spot to grab a beverage if the weather starts to turn. If you are a dedicated beer fan, you can travel the world from the comfort of the patio with the “Around the World in 80 Beers” passport. Plus, the patio is dog friendly for your furry friend to enjoy as well.

Craft Beer Market

Craft Beer Market’s downtown location is a hot-spot for when the weather gets a little colder, thanks to the rooftop patio with heaters and retractable walls and roof. Hide away from the rain while you sip on a drink from one of the biggest beer lists in Calgary. The patio here is first-come, first-serve, so show up early.

Affectionately known as “The Alley,” the heated and covered patio at Greta Bar features colourful street art by local artists and spills onto 10th Avenue S.W. There is often live music on the stage here, as well.

Hayden Block Smoke & Whiskey

Hayden Block has two patios: the front strip on Kensington Road that’s prime for sunning and people watching, and a backyard “whiskey garden.” The latter is fully enclosed, covered with a skylight and heated, making it more of a sun porch than a patio, so it provides an authentic Texas atmosphere for most of the year.

Last Best Brewing Company

There’s no reason to get chilly while cupping your hands around a pint of one of Last Best’s signature brews. The brewpub’s courtyard patio is fully surrounded, blocking out cool breezes. Patrons can snuggle up to the fire pit or under the heaters on chilly days.

This Pacific-inspired restaurant is a popular spot for outdoor dining — the perimeter of the building features a heated patio with retractable windows and awnings for when the weather plays nice. Enjoy a tiki cocktail with some lobster dumplings or house-made spam skewers while taking in the action on 17th Avenue S.W.

Porch is a fitting spot to snag a patio seat, as its design was inspired by a porch on a summer day (complete with swings). Porch has a large covered patio that overlooks the trendy 17th Avenue S.W., with a laid-back vibe and food and drinks to match.

Tucked around the corner from the ultra-busy patio strip along 17th Avenue S.W., Ricardo’s outdoor space actually offers more seating than its interior. Bright colours and greenery create a tropical-chic atmosphere, while three fireplaces and plenty of heaters keep you warm as you sip daiquiris and other rum-based drinks. Ricardo’s is currently closed for renovations, but plans to re-open in June (stay tuned for an official opening announcement date).

Vegan Street Kitchen & Lounge

Vegans, rejoice! Vegan Street’s Beltline location has a covered solarium where you can enjoy plant-based cuisine like chickin, no-fish or mushroom tacos. Don’t miss out on the daily happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m.
