Trevor King wants to answer one of Alberta’s biggest health questions — how does wildfire smoke affect our hearts?
King’s research is unique. He uses naturally occurring smoke to test its effect on blood flow. He’s one of the few researchers in this field and has been awarded nearly $300,000 for his work — including a prestigious NSERC Discovery Grant to fund a five-year research study exploring how exercising during smoke exposure affects cardiovascular health. King has published 30 peer-reviewed papers.
But he isn’t chasing notoriety — what he wants is answers for future generations. A two-time teaching award recipient, he’s supervised 20 undergraduate projects, helping students become passionate health researchers.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to answer questions that we don’t know about,” says King.
