A Four Ingredient Spicy Rum Cocktail to Make the Most of the End of Summer

Don't skip the peppered lime slice to garnish this daiquiri.

Sure, you could make a rum and Coke or a Dark and Stormy. Or, you could shake up something a little different.

Bacardi challenged bartenders across Canada to come up with new and innovative rum cocktail ideas. Calgary's Lee Peppinck developed this easy Spicy Bacardi Daiquiri that mixes rum with lime juice, sugar and bitters that have notes of jasmine chamomile and cinnamon. The real spice of this daiquiri comes from the garnish, which is a lime slice dredged through clove, anise and pepper.

Peppinck has been mixing drinks for 28 years — if you frequent The Living Room, you'll be familiar with his work — but his Spicy Bacardi Daiquiri doesn't require any special skill to make. You can scale the recipe up or down depending on how many drinks you want to make and you'll look like a pro if you serve it in the proper coupe glass.

Spicy Bacardi Daiquiri

2 parts Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
2 teaspoons fine sugar
3 dashes Bittercube Bolivar bitters

Shake, double strain and serve in a chilled coupe. Garnish with a spicy lime wheel. To make the spicy lime wheel, dredge a slice of lime in clove, anise and pepper.
