Celebrate Mother’s Day at Willow Park Village Where Possibilities are Blooming
The shopping centre’s new public art series features 6-foot-tall flower walls.
At Willow Park Village works of art aren’t confined to gallery walls. Instead, the vibrant outdoor shopping centre’s new public art project transforms the familiar and offers visitors a chance to enjoy the public space with a newfound sense of discovery and perspective.
Flowers for Mom
On May 13, in celebration of Mother’s Day, Willow Park Village unveils its first of two public art installations — two towering 6-foot-tall flower walls artfully adorned with a rainbow of hydrangeas. Shoppers are encouraged to snap a photo at the wall and share it on social media using #PossibilitiesAreBlooming.
Shoppers are invited to celebrate the unveiling of the flower walls throughout the Mother’s Day weekend and pay homage to the important role mothers and mother-figures play in every phase of life.
As part of the ongoing public art project — with more to come throughout the year — Willow Park Village will engage and highlight Calgary’s local art scene and offer artists an accessible and visible platform to showcase their talents.
On May 13, Calgary-based artist Natasha Richie will be present to capture the diversity of the special bond between mothers and daughters with an elaborate live painting. Richie’s creative style is both relatable and approachable and shoppers are encouraged to bid on the painting over the course of the Mother’s Day weekend event.
All for a Cause
All proceeds from the auction of the live painting will be donated to the Women in Need Society (WINS), a local thrift charity that was founded in 1992 to provide women in poverty — and their families — with everyday necessities. Since then, WINS has grown from one store to four, along with a Central Distribution Centre, that assists women from all walks of life. Willow Park felt WINS and its mission was an ideal fit to coincide with its celebration of motherhood. Representatives from WINS will be onsite to help visitors learn more about the organization’s initiatives, and various stores throughout Willow Park Village will have donation boxes for visitors interested in supporting WINS and its impact on women in the community.
Stop by for fun activities and events happening throughout the Village on May 13, while enjoying a walk in the Park!
