How to Eat at Calgary's Best Restaurants Right Now

Just a few weeks after Avenue revealed its lists of the 2020 best overall restaurants and best new restaurants, Calgary restaurants had to close down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With phase one of the province’s relaunch well underway now, some are in the midst of reopening for dine-in service while others are sticking with takeout and/or delivery services only for now. Others are still closed, but we anxiously await their return.

Here’s a look at where Calgary’s best new and overall restaurants are at and how you can experience their food either in their space or from the comfort of your own home.

Please note that the information on this list may change as Calgary’s COVID-19 situation evolves. For the latest information on whether a restaurant is now open or offering takeout/delivery, please contact the restaurant directly.

The Allium

If you’ve been waiting to eat at this vegetarian restaurant in-person again, you’ll be happy to hear that The Allium will reopen for three days (June 11, 12 and 13) by reservation before opening for regular dine-in service on June 16. The Allium has been open for takeout since March and will still be offering it once dine-in service begins.

Allora Everyday Italian

Head to the Aspen Landing Shopping Centre to dine at Allora, which has officially reopened its restaurant dining room and patio. You can also order food for pickup or order delivery through DoorDash.

Alloy

A staple of Calgary’s dining scene for more than a decade, Alloy’s dining room and patio reopens for Wednesday to Saturday dinner service on June 10. Takeout will also be available.

Alumni Sandwiches

While Alumni’s dining room is currently closed, you can still order its sandwiches and other menu items for curbside pickup by ordering online or over the phone.

Annabelle’s Kitchen

Annabelle’s Kitchen has a new menu that you can enjoy in its dining room or on its patio now. You can also order for pickup. And if you love Annabelle’s Kitchen, you’ll be happy to hear that it will soon have a second location in the downtown spot that used to house its sister restaurant, Blink.

Anju

While Anju has been closed since before the pandemic hit Calgary, you can still enjoy chef Roy Oh’s Korean fare by ordering family meals, a la carte dishes, sauces and more for pickup through Roy’s Korean Kitchen, which has been operating since April 1.

Bar Von Der Fels

Order Bar Von Der Fels for dinner with a takeout order between 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. You can arrange to pick up your order or get it delivered for $10 if you live within five kilometres of the restaurant. The family-style takeout menu changes weekly, so check for the latest menu on the restaurant’s Instagram account.

Bridgette Bar

As of June 4, Calgarians can now dine-in at Bridgette Bar again. The Beltline restaurant is also still offering dinner (with a rotating menu) for curbside pickup from Wednesday to Sunday.

Calcutta Cricket Club

Calcutta Cricket Club is still serving its tasty kati rolls, crushable gin and tonics and more for daily pickup or delivery through DoorDash over supper.

Cassis Bistro

While its dining room is currently closed, Cassis is still offering an a la carte dinner menu for Thursday to Sunday pickup, as well as a family-style menu that can be delivered or picked up.

Chairman’s Steakhouse

Chairman’s reopened its dining room on May 28, which means you can treat yourself to a steak dinner there now. You can also still order takeout for curbside pickup Wednesday through Sunday on the restaurant’s website.

Charcut Roast House

This downtown favourite is set to reopen for dine-in service on June 11. In the meantime, you can still order curbside pickup online.

Comery Block’s dining room and streetside patio are now open for dine-in service every day of the week. Pickup and delivery are also available through the barbecue restaurant’s website.

Cotto Italian Comfort Food

Calgarians can once again enjoy an Italian dinner at this Kensington restaurant, which is open for dine-in service. Pickup for takeout orders is still available, as is nearby delivery for people at risk with a day’s notice.

Flores & Pine

While Flores & Pine’s dining room is currently closed, you can book a reservation to dine on its lovely patio. If you want to support the restaurant from home, you can also take advantage of Flores & Pine’s curbside pickup menu (available Wednesday to Sunday) or purchase one of its dinner to-go kits.

Starting on June 12, Foreign Concept will be offering dine-in dinner service by reservation. Guests can continue to order takeout for pickup and have it delivered through the restaurant itself, Door Dash or Skip the Dishes.

Lulu Bar

Lulu Bar’s dining room and patio are currently open for dine-in service. You can also still get your hands on its Pacific-inspired fare with its three-course menu that is available for curbside pickup.

Model Milk offers a different supper menu for curbside pickup every week from Wednesday to Saturday. And starting on June 11, you can also opt to dine-in at this 17 Avenue S.W. restaurant.

Head to Chinatown to dine at this popular Mexican restaurant, which is open for in-person visits. You can also order for pickup online or delivery through Door Dash.

Native Tongues Taqueria’s dining room is currently closed, but you can still order takeout for lunch or dinner any day of the week. There are even special happy hour deals offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Delivery is also available through Door Dash.

Purlieu

This Oakridge restaurant has been offering a Hawaiian-inspired menu for curbside pickup for a few weeks now. You can order it from 4 p.m. to close Thursday to Saturday.

River Café

For a scenic getaway without leaving the city, head to the newly reopened River Café on Prince’s Island Park. Both the restaurant dining room and patio are open for seating.

Shiki Menya

Shiki Menya was delivering chili goma ramen kits while its dining room was closed but is currently on a break. Highball kits are still available on its website though.

Shokunin recently reopened its dining room and patio in Mission, which means you can once again enjoy its yakitori, beef takai, daily fish offcut and other dishes in-person again.

Teatro
